The Harraseeket Yacht Club Regatta Saturday June 30, 2012:

This regatta is held annually in June as part of the Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Associations’ spring series. The course takes the fleet through the glorious islands of Casco Bay. All HYC members, Casco Bay Yacht Clubs, and local recreational and weekend racers are welcome. Come and enjoy a day on the bay in a pursuit race format sailing around the islands from Harraseeket River to Eagle Island. Whether you are out for a family race or serious competition, this race has it all.

Morning refreshments at Skippers Meeting (included)

Long or Short Course depending on weather. You won’t be stuck out there all day.

Three Divisions – 9 Trophies up for grabs.

Awards after race at HYC followed by good food, beer and beverages for all (included).

1st Annual HYC Women’s Cup in conjunction with World Wide Summer “Sailstice” Yachting Day- contact Ross Cudlit

This event will be on June 21 (Thursday) and will be run the same as the Weds. Night series. There will be a Sonar Class and PHRF Class (1800 start time). Each boat’s skipper must be a woman. Trophies will be presented at the annual meeting for the 1st place finish in both classes. If there is not a woman on your boat, please invite a friend or club member to take over the helm for the race.

So come out and enjoy a great sail on the longest day of the year!

The class will run Mondays from 5-7pm June 25-July 30. The fee is $150 for members, and $210 for non-members. The class will fill up fast!

Women’s Sailing Returns to HYC – Summer 2012

Back by popular demand! If you are looking for a fun way to learn the basics of sailing and/or to brush up on your sailing technique please join a group of women for a fun and supportive sailing program. The program is designed for the beginner to intermediate sailor who wants to learn sailing fundamentals through a combination of on the water instruction followed by a “chalk talk” by experienced sailing coaches. We sail the club 420’s and may graduate to sailing Sonar’s on our last week. Build confidence in your abilities, meet other women from the community and just have fun on the beautiful Harraseeket River! This program requires a minimum of 12 participants and has the capacity for a maximum of 20. For 2012 there will be one six week session.

We are pleased to this great opportunity to promote your business to our members and HYC website visitors. In 2011 we had 7 advertisers with over 25,000 site visits and average of 370 clicks on each of our advertisers ads. There is limited space and our existing advertisers will be served 1^st. We are looking to add 5-6 more advertisers. So if you interested these spots will be reserved on a 1^st come (contacted and contracted) 1^st served basis. Your ad will appear from June 1^st to May 31^st 2013 and will cost as little as $75 for side bar placement or $100 for larger ad banner.

Kayak & Laser Storage for 2012

Members who want handy access to the water with their Laser or kayaks can now rent one of the 420 racks for during the Youth Sailing Program season. The rental fee is only $50 for eight weeks (during the sailing program). If you are interested, please mail a check to HYC, PO Box 82, South Freeport 04078 to reserve your spot! We only have 12 spaces to rent so please plan ahead if you are interested. Any kayaks or Lasers not placed on a paid rack will be removed from the HYC premises in an effort to keep the grounds neat and orderly. Thanks!

Lots of things are in the works for the 2012 season. Commadore John Karp and the Board will be rolling out all the info in your packet that will be arriving soon (I’m sure you got the email he sent out …..right??) but here are a few of the highlights for this season:

The Sailing Program: Bentley has the program well underway and Information, Fees, and Dates are posted.

New Volunteer Program: A new system to make it easier to get involved.

Racing:We will have some new twists this year with Ross Cutlitz leading the charge, Please email racing.hyc@gmail.com if you would like to suggest any additional ideas (he got a few great ones already planned)

Lecture series: Topics will include:

Safety Afloat
Casco Bay and whats being done to protect it
Diesel Engine Overview (The things you really should know to get you back to the mooring)
