It may be winter but things are heating up for the 2012 Season

Lots of things are in the works for the 2012 season. Commadore John Karp and the Board will be rolling out all the info in your packet that will be arriving soon (I’m sure you got the email he sent out …..right??) but here are a few of the highlights for this season:

The Sailing Program: Bentley has the program well underway and Information, Fees, and Dates will be posted by the end of February.

New Volunteer Program: A new system to make it easier to get involved.

Racing:We will have some new twists this year with Ross Cutlitz leading the charge, Please email racing.hyc@gmail.com if you would like to suggest any additional ideas (he got a few great ones already planned)

Lecture series: Topics will include:

Safety Afloat
Casco Bay and whats being done to protect it
Diesel Engine Overview (The things you really should know to get you back to the mooring)
Women at Sea
Any other topics???

Dinner @ the Club Starting in June with Bring your own meal and beverage

Float Out October 29th-Webmaster position open

We wanted to wait until the great weather passed to announce that the season’s end is near, we’ll be hauling the floats at 9:00am Saturday October 29th. Last chance to fulfill those volunteer hours and talk about the great season we’ve had.

Also, for anyone that is interested the HYC webmaster position is available. No experience necessary, all the training and support you would need will be provided. Please contact John Carp

or Spencer Drake if interested.

2011 US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics are National Champions!

Rick Doerr (Clifton, N.J.), a 2008 Paralympian, with crew Brad Kendall (Tampa, Fla.) and Hugh Freund (South Freeport, Maine) won the Sonar fleet with a 2-1-1-3 scoring line. They won by two points over skipper 2000 Paralympian Paul Callahan (Cape Coral, Fla.) and crew Tom Brown (Castine, Maine) and Bradley Johnson (Pompano Beach, Fla.).

“It was a challenge all weekend,” said Doerr. “The breeze was up and down, and there was a ton of current. I think we did a good job keeping the competition in our sights. We wanted to make a statement that to go through the Trials you have to go through us.”

Friends of Casco Bay Event at HYC

Friends of Casco Bay is hosting a party on Wednesday September 21st at HYC at 6pm and has invited all members of HYC to attend. Many HYC members and local residents have close ties with this important organization and we all, as boaters in Casco Bay, will benefit from learning more about what they do and how they make boating more enjoyable for all. Hi Everyone,

Stephanie Paine is working hard to be sure we have the proper amount of lobsters, chicken & dogs for this Saturday’s fun event. I’m sure most of you plan to attend the Annual HYC year end event so PLEASE respond to Stephanie (See more details below) with your choice of supper. We want everyone to have plenty of food.

The Annual Meeting (we have alot to cover) will start promptly at 5:30 so please arrive a little early and settle in. Thanks!

Dinner orders must be in by Thursday, September 8th. We need salads and/or desserts from each family. Please indicate what you will bring when you place your food order. B.Y.O.B. Set-ups provided. In order to receive volunteer credits for bringing food or helping with set-up and clean-up, please sign the “credit list” in the kitchen.

Picnic Supper Friday August 26th @ 6pm

Gather with a friendly group on the deck of the yacht club and enjoy a picnic supper together. Bring your own dinner and drinks and eat with other HYC members and friends. People tend to arrive around 6:00ish and bring dinner for themselves…it’s intended to be easy, casual and fun. The past two picnic dinners have been very enjoyable…please join!
